A Canterbury Based Success Story
Kyle Skene from Giesen Wines tells how the I.T. team delivers the rapidly growing company’s I.T. requirements.
Giesen Wines was founded by brothers Theo, Alex and Marcel Giesen, who migrated from Germany to New Zealand in 1981 to make world class wines in the Southern Hemisphere.
Some 30 years later, the business has grown into an impressive enterprise, with vineyards throughout Marlborough and a sales team spread across Canterbury, Marlborough and Australia.
One of the challenges the business faced was the need to bring their staff “closer together” in the words of general manager Kyle Skene. “We had no internal IT resource and we are not particularly IT savvy, so it was great to work with a locally based business who spoke to us in plain English.”
The IT Team have taken Giesen from what Kyle describes as being a “pretty manual” process, to being well integrated in terms of their IT systems and communications, and fully supporting a mobile workforce.
In 2011 the I.T. team installed a new server for Giesens along with managed services to support their network and provide upgrades. In 2013 the IT Team migrated the company from the on-premises server to a data centre server, and put the staff onto Office 365. Support was initially provided for 35 users and the team now has 50 users and growing.
Providing support for a mobile sales team operating around New Zealand, Australia and the United States has included access to mail online, remote server access, remote support and of course provision of laptops and smartphones so business can be conducted on the road.
