In the ever-evolving world of AI, staying updated with the latest features and improvements is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. At the forefront of these advancements is ChatGPT, which has recently introduced significant updates. These enhancements promise to revolutionise the way organisations operate, and we’re excited to share how they can benefit New Zealand organisations.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: CHATGPT’S LATEST UPDATES - A GAME-CHANGER FOR ORGANISATIONS

The recent updates in ChatGPT have introduced a host of new features designed to enhance functionality and usability. Here’s a glimpse into some of the most impactful changes:

  1. Improved Performance and Speed

ChatGPT's latest version, GPT-4o, offers enhanced speed and performance, providing quicker and more accurate responses. This improvement boosts efficiency in workflows and customer interactions.

  1. Advanced Customisation Options

With the new updates, ChatGPT offers more customisation options, enabling organisations to tailor the AI’s responses to better align with their brand voice and specific needs. For instance, you can set the language and spelling to match New Zealand English, ensuring that communications are consistent with local standards. Additionally, you can customise the tone of responses to be more formal or casual depending on your audience, and integrate specific jargon or terminology relevant to your industry. This level of customisation ensures a more personalised and consistent experience for customers.

  1. Enhanced Data Privacy and Security

Recognising the importance of data privacy, ChatGPT has enhanced its security with stronger encryption and compliance with local regulations. These updates are particularly beneficial for organisations on the ChatGPT Team Plan, offering advanced data management and privacy controls tailored for team collaboration and enterprise needs. Read more about this in our last blog.

  1. User-Friendly Interface

The new interface is more intuitive and user-friendly, making it easier for teams to navigate and utilise the full potential of ChatGPT. This reduces the learning curve and allows for seamless integration into existing systems.

  1. Updated Memory Capabilities

The latest update introduces improved memory capabilities, allowing ChatGPT to remember previous interactions more effectively. This enhancement personalises the user experience, adapting and improving responses over time based on past interactions.

USE CASES:

We’re always excited to experiment with the latest features and capabilities of ChatGPT, so when some new ones became available in early August 2024, we couldn’t resist giving them a go. Below, we’ve shared a few of our favourite discoveries, where ChatGPT took on some unique challenges. From managing inventory with a quick snap to organising whiteboard brainstorming sessions, and even remembering personalised instructions. Here’s a look at what we tried and how it went.

Example 1: Managing Inventory with Images

Connon our General Manager tried this at home with one easy image and one difficult image. He first took a snap of a bookshelf, and it did a very impressive job of listing the books in approximately 5 seconds.

He also took a shot of the corner of his lounge/playroom, and it did a great (and fascinating) job of summarising!

In the not-too-distant future, we could envision retail or warehouse settings where staff take photos of products or inventory items. AI could be used to identify the items, check them against inventory lists, and update stock records accordingly. This visual recognition capability could streamline inventory management and reduce manual entry errors.

Example 2: Itemising Whiteboard Notes

During a brainstorming session, the team took a photo of their whiteboard filled with ideas and notes. Tay our new Marketing Specialist was running through some of our services and brainstorming digital resources we could create for customers. ChatGPT then analysed the image, extracted the text, and generated a structured list of the key points within 10 seconds. This feature saved time and ensured that no valuable ideas were lost in translation.

Example 3: Custom Instructions and Adding Items to Memory

Creating custom instructions in ChatGPT enhances the user experience by allowing the AI to remember specific preferences and facts, making interactions much more personalized and useful. We have previously used Custom Instructions to ensure that the content ChatGPT returned to us was in UK English and that its response was shorter and less formal than standard.

In this example we also asked ChatGPT to respond to the name “Frank” and to call us “Jane” which it promptly did.

The new memory function also means that we no longer need to load these instructions into the settings – we can simply ask the AI to add them in the chat prompt.

Or if you’re unsure what has been stored you can ask it too.  .

It’s true we did ask it to say “aw shucks” when we paid the AI a complement as it was far too modest

Working with “Frank” has been both fun and productive. You can see how this technology will allow users to increasingly tailor responses to their specific needs—the more it learns about you and your working style, the more precise and valuable its support becomes. It's easy to envision a future where a tight partnership develops between humans and these tools.

CONCLUSION AND VERDICT

Our verdict is clear: we’re big fans of ChatGPT’s ability to personalise instructions using memory. This feature has proven to be incredibly useful, helping us get the right responses more quickly tailored to our specific roles, styles, and language preferences. We’ve also been impressed with the image processing capabilities, which we frequently use for digitising notes and meetings. These tools are already enhancing our productivity, and with the added assurance of data security, we anticipate increasing our usage even further. We're excited to see how these AI technologies evolve and reshape our digital strategies. We are additionally trialing ChatGPT voice assistant, and we are actively exploring further how these efficiencies can be maximised.
